A Red Bud Day...
04/10/2010
The half-mile drive from the main road to The Farm is lined with Red Bud. These flowering trees are full out today and just gorgeous. Their fleeting beauty may last only another week or so, but their arrival is always anticipated and is a true sign spring has arrived. Their arrival also signals grass cutting is just days away, and as I look out over the seven acres I mow, it won’t be long before I will have to get to it.
Though I have probably rushed it, and it may well be too early for it, a lot of my garden is planted. People in the know have wagged a finger at me scolding my eagerness to get it done, warning a frost will kill it all. I told The Nancy at $.97 a pack for seed we can just replant it if a mass plant death occurs due to an act of God. She loves “I-told-you-so,” and loves the thought she might get to lay one on me.
The daffodils are out now, as well, some are waning while others are just opening. It won’t be too long before the dogwood makes an appearance with rhododendron and azalea following closely. The oaks and the poplars are getting greener every day, and all of this brings The Nancy and I closer to the day when we will be able to sit on the rocking chairs on the porch and take in the bucolic and benign beauty of farm living.
You should come see us and enjoy this time of the year with us?
And that is all I have to say about that…
