Sinking Back Into Retirement…

09/26/2012

Here I am sitting in the Raleigh, North Carolina Airport waiting to board my flight happily contemplating sinking, better yet, diving back into my ocean of retirement; and I might just have to say my level of excitement is extremely high and growing exponentially.

This is not to say I didn’t enjoy the two months working for my former company.  I enjoyed it immensely and I would do it again, if asked (hopefully that won’t eventuate for a couple of months).  It was a nostalgia trip for me allowing me to create some new relationships, mend some old ones and support the company that supported me for twenty-nine years.  My last foray as a sales representative ended January 31, 1986.  Working as a sales rep is 100% different than working as a sales manager, where there is a lot of pressure from above and below, though most sales reps would surely disagree with my managerial assessment.  Having said this, I should note I really didn’t put in more than twenty hours per week on average…some might say I never did at any time during my entire working life.

Beginning tomorrow it is back to the routine I became accustomed to after my retirement date of November 19, 2011.  That routine begins with making a valiant attempt to remain snuggled under the covers at least until daybreak.  Most assuredly I do not like getting up in the morning to find the mode the same as when I crawled into my bed, especially the mornings of late when the sun rises after 6:30 and my eyes open at 4:30-5.  Frankly, that sucks. Recently, for some inexplicable, one or more of my eyes begins to arouse and make a fuzzy attempt to stare at the clock to see what time it might be (praying all the while it is after six) to find the clock posting the ungodly hour of 3:35…and I hate it, but cannot control it.  Suggestions are welcomed.

Anyway, with a very welcomed return retirement status I can get back to my “To Do” list, my projects, and my project list has grown over the past two months.  I must admit as a procrastinator extraordinaire my re-employment, as benignly short as it was, did allow me to practice and enhance my skill of putting things off, a skill I honed when I was employed full time, like 40 hours a week.

So tomorrow I will realign my priorities and get back to work doing the thing I love to do best – nothing.  And doing nothing is the one thing I am truly good at and where my adeptness is at its highest.

And that is all I have to say about that…

Wackos Persist…

09/16/2012

What in the world is going on?

Black Elk, the Lakota medicine man, said, “Peace comes to the minds of men when they realize their ‘oneness’ with the universe.”  For some reason this came into my mind as I watched the TV news as mob of seemingly illiterate Muslims attacked a US embassy building , allegedly over the defamation of their revered prophet.  Obviously these people, as probably 90% or more of people on the planet, do not get that we are all connected.  For crying out loud, how difficult of a concept is this to understand?

Whatever happened to “live and let live?”  What about the Golden Rule?  What about “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men?”  I suppose it is just much easier to shout “Death to America” and burn stuff down, maybe kill a few thousand people along the way.

Please, give me a break?

I think were it not for the petroleum the US would pull our diplomats out of this desert utopia and let them all go their way and enjoy their way of life…you know cutting off limbs, stoning rape victims, dressing their women in bags and denying gays any rights at all.

Thanks to God I live where I live where we can say what we want when we want to say it and not have to worry about a group of nuts breaking down our doors.  While I am not accessing it until after the upcoming election so I don’t offend my liberal friends with my Republican sense of the state of things in our country, I would defend to the death the right of everyone to say whatever the hell they want on their Facebook page.  It is how this country works and why I love it so.

Hopefully one day all the world will get it.  I just hope there will be someone still living to get it.

So now I will shut up.

And that is all I have to say about that…

Our 4th Annual…

09/03/2012

The Nancy and I are ready to host our 4th Annual Labor Day Party.  Our 4th party and my 69th Labor Day, all, odd as it may sound, have all been on a Monday.  Our guests should begin to arrive around 2pm.

We are expecting up to about fifty people, adults and children…and, as Isaac would have it, all may have to be inside just as they were last year, making the score two to two – inside versus outside.  This house The Nancy and I claim as our habitual abode is more than capable of accommodating that many people and more.  Just to be on the safe side, since we forgot to put an R.S.V.P. on the invitations we handed out and have no idea of just how many will actually make it, we have enough burgers and hotdogs and bratwursts to feed eighty, and I am sure we have probably invited at least that many.

Our Labor Day Party is a labor of love, especially with all the kids being here.  Hopefully the rainy weather we are expecting off and on today will hold off long enough for me to get some of these kids in our Jeep Wrangler and bounce their little butts around the fields and through the woods surrounding our house.  That, my friends, is the highlight of the day for me and exactly the reason we will do this again on Labor Day 2013, which may also, if history repeats itself, will be on a Monday.

If you happened to have nothing to do today why don’t you hop in your car and come on over?

And that is all I have to say about that…
