Hell of a Guy

Do the Right Thing...

07/10/2009

Watching Fox and Friends this morning I overheard someone say “people really always want to do the right thing.” I don’t have a clue as to what the subject was or of whom they were speaking, I was way to busy pressing The Nancy’s couture of the day, but that line caught my ear, and, of course, it got me to thinking, and, for sure, you know that is dangerous.  The majority of people do not “always” anything.  People for the most part want everyone else to do the right thing.  And, I sure as hell want the same.

If I am out in my car and a bell rings on my iPhone signaling an e-mail has arrived, I pick the damn thing up and check to see who sent it.  I have been known to (inadvertently) return a text message or even answer an e-mail while driving (isn’t “inadvertently” another word for bullshit?) but when I catch myself doing it, I quit (maybe).  If I see other people sending a Text or an e-mail I think to myself there is an accident waiting to happen.  Other people are not as good at it as I am.

Doing the right thing?  I almost always drive above the speed limit.  If someone blocks me, he/she is an asshole, and if some passes me, he/she is an idiot.  People traveling faster than I so deserve a ticket: those going slower I cannot easily get around shouldn’t be allowed to have a driver’s license.

I love children.  I love to be with them.  I love to watch them. I love to talk with them.  I always do the right thing when children are involved, except when they are on airplanes sitting behind me pushing their cute little feet into the back of my seat, or even worse, screaming.  At that point I am ready to open the door to see if children can sky dive.

Just think about what the world would be if everyone always “did the right thing,” including me?  There would be no crime.  There would be no poverty.  There would be no war, no armies, no navies, no starving children, no dictators, and no despots.  It could be done if everyone just subscribed to the same program, to always do the right thing.  It could work.  We could call it “The Golden Rule.”

And that is all I have to say about that…
