Oh Where, Oh Where Have You Been?


I have been places, but I have not been not here.

Since I got on to Facebook a couple of years ago I have found I can post my BS in snippets on it and still enjoy feedback from my friends, but Facebook does not bring me the satisfaction this old blogsite does. So, I am back and ready to write some good old Hell of a Guy bullshit. Here goes.

My last post was May 28th of this year, over two months ago. What have I been up to? Lots of nothing. Why haven’t I written anything? Pure, utter laziness. And that my friends is all it is.

This particular rant will center around a recent episode I have had thanks to Microsoft. Microsoft released Windows 10 this week, and it offered those of us with Windows 8.1 a free upgrade to the new software. I fell for it and downloaded it. Mistake? Yes! A huge mistake.

Almost immediately issues manifested. At first, it took an eternity to boot up. I got to look at a black screen for a few minutes before I was able to get the view where I enter my password. I could live with that, but it was not fun. I shut the darn thing down. Later, things went downhill, and I mean downhill.

My computer revolted. It, having a mind all its own, decided to showed me its displeasure with MS 10. Later that evening I turned the Dell laptop on (I ain’t a Dell fan, either, but that is a different story), it finally booted up, and after about 30 seconds the screen went blue telling me “something went wrong” and it was necessary to restart my computer. Another line indicated there was an “Internal Power Error.” Every time it re-started, the screen would go blue again in about thirty seconds. After numerous, unsuccessful attempts to start my computer, I gave up, had enough, and, believe it or not, I didn’t cuss it more than 100 times. Shut it down and went to bed.

The next day I Googled the internet on a tablet to see if I could determine the error meant. What I found was a myriad of people experiencing the same issue as me. Microsoft did it again, and I was, as were many others, “screwed.” 

An attempt was made to contact King Microsoft, after an agonizing sixty-minute wait, I made contact with a human – a so-called Microsoft expert. This one, however, didn’t seem to know much about Windows 10, was not familiar with the issue, and, thus, our conversation lasted about three minutes. Much to her credit, she did send me a “fix” path to follow, but I had to be online to get it, which I could not get to because of the issue I was having, and, besides, the path was only to correct the black screen issue.
I decided to call Dell (have I said I don’t care for Dell). There I spent nearly three hours with a very patient Indian fellow, and though I could not always comprehend his English, he did his best to help me. Then our internet went haywire, and he and I had to end our session (it was close to lunchtime, anyway). Now I have to get my DSL repaired before I can make contact again with Dell to complete the fix. Oh joy!

Next: I placed a call to our internet provider, the phone company. Another chapter in this book entitled “A Total Waste of Time,” and it was.

We have had DSL through our phone company for about four years or longer. Last June we got a second DSL for The Nancy’s business. Both, pretty much, suck. Seems like one or the other of them is down at any given moment, and, needless to say, it is aggravating as hell. We have had a phone company rep out here so many times to repair our DSL lines, we are on a first name basis and thinking of adopting him.

All in all, it was a miserable day and set my mood for the rest of it. In the words of my dearly-departed, sainted mother (even though I know she would never have uttered it), the day was Bullshit.

And that is all I have to say about that…
