Wine Country to Snow Country...
12/19/2009
Sitting here in my favorite chair in the comfort of my family room at The Farm watching the snow fall by the ton, and I do not like it. The white crap began to come down last night shortly after 2am and is supposed to keep falling until about six this evening. About two hours ago I donned a jacket and gloves and shoveled a path from the house to the garage. There was at least ten or so inches on the ground already and it continues to accumulate at an alarming rate. At least another three inches has fallen since I shoveled. Luckily for me, the beer fridge is stocked and we have enough vittles in the house to cover us for a week or so should we get stranded. When you live a half mile off the paved road a foot of snow can cause havoc. I can’t imagine what we are in for if we get more than eighteen inches, and it appears we may be well over that by the time this ends.
Just a week ago we were in Wine Country and rainy weather. One week later we are subjected to one the worst winter storms since Al Gore was vice-president. Global what?
The nice part about being snowed in is how stunningly beautiful it is outside. It is cozy and warm in here (keeping my fingers crossed it stays this way), and a veritable Winter Wonderland outside. There are three large picture-windows in this room where we can look out north, west and south, though the snow is falling so hard we can hardly see much beyond a couple of hundred feet, but just far enough to see the snow clinging to the pine trees in the woods just beyond the pastures. Nonetheless, are talking blizzard here!
This is a photo of The Farm after a snowfall a couple of years ago. It was much easier to throw this one in here rather than take a new one. Isn’t “sloth” one of the seven deadly sins?
The Weather Channel people are talking about snowfall totals in places in and around Virginia and Maryland. We are hearing numbers like eight, twelve and even twenty-three inches. Should twenty-three inches fall here The Nancy and I may not see anyone other than our cute little selves for days. She will probably be ready to strangle someone by about noon Sunday. Are there any volunteers out there?
And that is all I have to say about that…
